Because of the difference in currency rates and the cost
of property relative to other areas of the world, buying
property in Canada is generally a great investment for
the foreign buyer and Salt Spring Island the ultimate
in destinations for climate, infrastructure, and quality
of life.
In order to be granted permission for permanent residency,
you will need to apply for, and receive, landed immigrant
status.
Without this status you are allowed to occupy your Canadian
property for a maximum of six months per year. If your
intention is for casual/recreational use then these rules
should be fine.
If however, your goal is to relocate to our beautiful
island on a permanent basis, you need to find an immigration
lawyer to assist you with the steps involved. (We can
assist you with that, if you wish.)
